THE EVERYDAY RULE

Start with a dry microfiber cloth. For a small mark, use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately.

01 / CLEANING

A gentle clean, step by step.

A quick dry wipe is the first choice. Add a little water only where it is needed, rather than washing the whole set.

  1. Start dry.

Wipe the tile lightly with a clean microfiber cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. Check the cloth for grit before you begin; do not rub debris across the artwork.

  2. Spot-clean only if needed.

Lightly dampen a corner of the cloth with plain room-temperature water. Squeeze it out until it is barely damp, then gently wipe the mark. Apply water to the cloth, not directly to the tile.

  3. Blot dry, then put away.

Use the dry cloth immediately. Let the tiles finish drying at room temperature before returning them to their case. If a mark remains, stop and ask us before trying anything stronger.

Keep the pressure light around the artwork edges. Do not use your nail to work at a mark.

02 / PLAY & STORAGE

Good habits around the table.

Give your tiles a soft landing.

Play on a clean, soft mahjong mat. Keep the surface free of crumbs and grit, and avoid dropping tiles or dragging them over rough surfaces.

Handle tiles with clean, dry hands. Let hand sanitizer dry fully before play, and keep drinks where they are less likely to spill onto the set.

Mahjong tiles arranged in a protective zipped case

Pack them dry. Keep them cool.

Put completely dry tiles in their protective case. Keep keys, coins and other loose objects away from them, especially when travelling.

Choose a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Avoid windowsills, radiators and hot cars. A case is useful protection during transport, but it does not make a hot car a suitable storage place.

03 / WHAT TO AVOID

Gentle care protects the artwork.

Treat the printed surface and its edges gently. Here is what to leave out of your cleaning routine, and why.

Alcohol & strong cleaners
Skip sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, glass cleaner, solvents and abrasive polish. Cleaner compatibility with the artwork, adhesive and finish has not been established. Use the plain-water spot-cleaning method above.
Soaking & running water
Do not submerge, rinse under a tap or put tiles in a dishwasher. A gloss finish does not establish that the complete tile, artwork edges and adhesive can tolerate prolonged water exposure.
Picking & hard scrubbing
Avoid fingernails, scrapers, stiff brushes and abrasive pads. They can scratch the surface or catch an artwork edge. A stubborn mark needs advice, not more pressure.
Direct sun & high heat
Do not leave the set in prolonged direct sunlight or near a heat source. Never use a hairdryer or other heat source to speed up drying or flatten a lifting edge.

04 / WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS

A spill? A mark? Start here.

A drink spills on the tiles

Lift them away from the spill and blot with a soft, dry cloth. For residue, follow the barely damp spot-cleaning steps above. Dry immediately and keep the case open and empty until it is dry too.

A mark will not come off

Stop rubbing. Do not switch to a stronger cleaner, abrasive pad or polish. Take a clear photo of the mark and contact us for advice.

An artwork edge is lifting

Stop cleaning the area. Do not pull, peel, glue or heat the design. Send us your order number and a close-up photo so we can look at the affected tile.

05 / COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you reach for a cleaner.

Do I need to wash my tiles after every game?

No washing routine is needed. A light dry wipe is the starting point for dust and fingerprints. Spot-clean a mark only when needed, and always dry the tile before storage.

Can I use soap or a cleaner labelled “safe for acrylic”?

For these printed tiles, use plain water for spot cleaning. A cleaner intended for bare acrylic is not automatically suitable for the printed artwork, adhesive or gloss finish. Ask us before using soap, polish or a specialist cleaner.

Does the glossy finish mean the tiles are waterproof?

Do not treat them as waterproof. The finish alone does not confirm that the complete tile can be soaked or washed. Keep water use brief and local, and blot dry straight away.

Can I disinfect the tiles with wipes or alcohol?

Do not use alcohol, sanitizer or disinfectant wipes on the tiles. The cleaning method on this page is for ordinary surface care; it is not a validated disinfection process. If you need specific hygiene guidance for your set, contact us first.

Does this guide cover my mat, rack and case too?

This guide covers Sage Mahjong tiles with UV DTF artwork and a gloss finish. Follow the separate care instructions for mats, racks, cases and products made from other materials.
